Relieving the county superintendent of schools of the duty of nominating personnel to be employed by the county board [HB-2525]
The purpose of this bill is to relieve the county superintendent of schools of the duty of nominating personnel to be employed by the county board. The bill authorizes the county board to employ a human resources director to receive job applications, qualifications and other pertinent information for principals, vice-principals and other administrative positions. The human resources director then submits this information to the county board which may determine the persons to be hired.

Relating to requirements for employing nurses in public schools [SB-319]
The purpose of this bill is to reduce the student-school nurse ratio from 1,500-1 in grades K-7 to 750-1 and to expand it to all levels of school in the 2017-18 school year to provide for ever-increasing medical needs of students, while ensuring that school nurses will do the work, not contract services.

Relating to the public school calendar [HB-2412]
The purpose of this bill is to restructure the primary and secondary school instructional terms. The bill removes the word “separate” throughout the section as it relates to the number of instructional days in the school calendar. The bill requires that the instructional term for students begin no earlier than August 10 and end no later than June 10, except for schools operates on a balanced calendar.
