Tax Cuts and Jobs Middle Class Enhancement Act [HB-957] [Taxes ] [Budget and Spending ] [Children and Youth ]
The bill makes permanent the tax reductions and other provisions for individuals that were enacted in P.L 115-97 (commonly known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) and are scheduled to expire at the end of 2025. The bill also increases the standard deduction, makes permanent the reduction in the adjusted gross income threshold that must be exceeded before a taxpayer is allowed to claim an itemized deduction for medical expenses, and increases the refundable portion of the child tax credit.

Increases the federal minimum wage to the minimum hourly wage sufficient for a person working for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, to earn an annual income 25.5% higher than the federal poverty threshold for a four-person household, with two children under age 18, and living in the 48 contiguous states. The Department of Labor shall determine the minimum wage rate by June 1, 2018, and review it every four years. Labor may not adjust the minimum wage to a lower rate.
