SENATE BILL 1080
AN ACT concerning State Boat Act - Privilege to Operate a Vessel - Suspension Authority
This bill is about giving the Department of Natural Resources the authority to suspend the privilege to operate a vessel on the waters of the State for a certain period of time for people who are convicted of a certain violation. It also prohibits people from operating a vessel during the suspension period. The bill establishes requirements and procedures for the timing and hearing before the suspension, and allows the Department to suspend the privilege without a hearing in certain situations. The Department is also required to adopt regulations to implement this bill.
If this bill is passed, it will take effect on October 1, 2017, contingent on the State entering into the Interstate Boating Violator Compact. If the State does not enter into the compact by October 1, 2020, this bill will become null and void without any further action needed.
