Relating to distance firearm can be discharged near home, school or church [SB-476]
The purpose of this bill is to provide an exception to allow a homeowner or tenant to shoot a firearm in a lawful manner within five hundred feet of a dwelling house in which that person lives if no other dwelling house is located within five hundred feet of the person shooting. The bill also corrects an anomaly that allows a person to shoot a firearm at a closer distance to a school or church than to a dwelling house. This bill raises the distance for a school or church from 400 feet to 500 feet to bring it into conformity with the 500 feet shooting

Exempting certain school mascot from prohibition of firearms possession on school grounds [SB-421]
The purpose of this bill is to provide an exemption for the official mascot of Parkersburg South High School, commonly known as "The Patriot," which would allow the mascot to carry a musket on school grounds when the mascot is acting in his or her official capacity. This is the same exemption that is granted to the West Virginia University Mountaineer.

Creating Firearm Protection Act [SB-420]
The purpose of this bill is to create the "Firearm Protection Act" that provides that any federal law effective after March 1, 2013 which attempts to ban semiautomatic firearm or to limit the size of a magazine of a firearm or other limitation on firearms in this state is unenforceable in West Virginia.
