Requiring parental notice of certain school choice options [SB-586]
The purpose of this bill is to mandate procedure as to when parents should be notified by county school boards of school choice options. Underachieving schools are required to notify parents of school choice options at the end of the school year for choices to be made for the next school year. For other situations, county boards are required to notify parents of school choice options not later than fourteen days prior to the beginning of the school year. Methods of notification are also provided.

Requiring children entering school prove certain immunization [SB-530]
The purpose of this bill is to require all children entering school in this state to demonstrate that they have been immunized against diphtheria, polio, rubeola, rubella, tetanus and whooping cough. The bill provides medical and nonmedical exemptions. The bill provides the temporary suspension of an exemption during health emergencies. The bill also requires school personnel to inform identified officials of anyone coming into a school who has not been immunized. Relating to certain mandatory immunization exemptions for school children [SB-157]
The purpose of this bill is to provide medical and nonmedical exemptions from mandatory immunizations for school children. The bill would require parents and guardians to assert their conscientious or religious beliefs in an affidavit. Requiring principals assume more authority over teachers' classroom performance [SB-15]
The purpose of this bill is to require principals to take on greater authority and control over teachers' classroom teaching performance. Toward this goal the bill requires the State Board of Education to propose rules for legislative approval designed to develop and implement a program to train principals to act with greater control and authority over the teachers in their schools in a manner similar to corporate CEOs in order to maintain higher standards in the classroom and promote constant professional improvement of teachers.
