Establishing child support insurance match program [SB-67]
The purpose of this bill is to establish a child support insurance match program that will assist the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement in determining whether a claimant has a child support obligation. The bill provides exemptions. The bill sets forth additional information insurance companies must provide. The bill sets forth the bureau’s and the insurance companies’ respective obligations. The bill requires health insurance companies to participate in a data matching program with the bureau to assist in determining the availability of sources

Authorizing qualified entities access to Criminal Identification Bureau for certain purposes [SB-405]
The purpose of this bill is to authorize qualified entities, as defined by this section, to access criminal history information provided by the Criminal Identification Bureau for use only for the purpose of screening employees, foster parents, adoptive parents and volunteers or persons applying to be an employee, foster parent, adoptive parent or volunteer with a qualified entity.

Relating to living arrangements for children in foster care and children sixteen years or older [SB-401]
The purpose of this bill is to provide living arrangements for children sixteen years or older in foster care. The bill provides matters the court must consider when making a decision regarding planned permanent living arrangements and it sets forth necessary order provisions when the court is considering planned permanent living arrangements.

Creating Task Force on Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Children [SB-387]
The purpose of this bill is to create a Task Force on the Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Children within the Center for Professional Development. It is named after child sexual abuse survivor, Erin Merryn. The task force is to develop recommendations and proposals for statutory changes, state education policy, and methods to foster cooperation among state agencies, local government, schools and community efforts to prevent child sexual abuse in West Virginia.

Relating to suicide prevention awareness [SB-359]
The purpose of this bill is to expand the number of people who are trained in suicide prevention in order to maximize the possibility that at risk children and adults can be saved. School personnel from middle school through college will not only be trained, they will provide children and young adults with suicide prevention information, facilitate discussion about preventing suicide and make mental health resources available. Licensed medical professionals will be required to obtain education in suicide prevention as part of their licensing process.

Requiring court-appointed special advocate in all counties [SB-263]
The purpose of this bill is to provide for a court appointed special advocate (CASA) program in each judicial circuit and court appointed special advocates in each county for child abuse and neglect cases. The bill also provides for a revenue stream and a fund within the State Treasury to pay for the implementation and sustenance of court-appointed special advocate programs.
