HOUSE BILL NO. 5551
A bill to amend the Michigan Election Law of 1954 to make changes to the qualifications and eligibility of members of the Board of State Canvassers and the Board of County Canvassers in the state of Michigan.
Section 22c
(1) A member of the Board of State Canvassers must be a qualified and registered voter in the state of Michigan.
(2) An individual cannot be a member of the Board of State Canvassers if they have been convicted of an election-related offense.
(3) Before starting their term, a member of the Board of State Canvassers must take an oath of office.
(4) "Election-related offense" refers to specific violations listed in this section and Section 24b of the bill.
Section 24b
(1) Each member of the Board of County Canvassers must be a qualified voter of the county and take an oath of office.
(2) An individual cannot be a member of the Board of County Canvassers if they have been convicted of an election-related offense.
(3) An individual currently holding an elective public office is not eligible for membership on the Board of County Canvassers. If a member of the Board of County Canvassers becomes a candidate for any elective public office during their term, their office will become vacant.
