Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act of 2023
This bill aims to change the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 to prevent horses and other equines from being slaughtered for human consumption. It was introduced by Mr. Buchanan and Ms. Chakowsky in the House of Representatives in May 2023 and referred to the Committee on Agriculture.
Specifically, the bill updates the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 to include equines in the prohibition of slaughter for human consumption. This means that the act now also protects horses, donkeys, and other equines from being killed for meat. The bill also changes the title of the act to 'Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act of 2023' or 'SAFE Act of 2023'.
