Summary of H.R. 7092 - Great American Outdoors Act
This bill aims to address the maintenance backlog of various agencies responsible for managing national parks and public lands by establishing a fund called the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund. This fund would receive 50% of energy development revenues from federal land and water, with a maximum cap for each fiscal year. The funds would be used to address deferred maintenance projects for assets managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and Bureau of Indian Education.
In addition, the bill provides permanent and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, without the need for further appropriation. The President would need to submit detailed allocations of the funds annually to Congress.
