The purpose of this bill is to prohibit civil rights violations based on gender identity, or sexual orientation. The bill provides that evidence of constitutionally protected speech or associations is not admissible in criminal prosecutions except in certain situations. The bill provides for sentencing alternatives for persons convicted of violations. And, the amendments to this section are to be known as the “Justice Through Grace in Communities Act”.

The purpose of this bill is to require contractors to provide all required information on a construction project to the State Fire Commission or the State Fire Marshall. The bill relieves the person who has hired the contractor from submitting the same information twice. The bill requires the State Fire Commission and the State Fire Marshall to create forms and to provide them to the West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board for contractors to use.

The purpose of this bill is to provide that paralegals and analysts who have been certified by a national association and who have been employed by the Legislature for two years are certified paralegals for all purposes within the state. Relating to the Consumer Credit and Protection Act [HB-4418]
The purpose of this bill is to declare that the provisions of the Consumer Credit and Protection Act apply to general leases, landlords, tenants and residential rental fees a landlord may charge a general lease of residential real property. The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals held to the contrary in the case of Morrisey v Copper Beech Townhouses, 806 S.E. 2d 172 (W.Va. Oct. 12, 2017), citing, basically, the absence of specific legislative intent that this Act apply to general leases of residential real property.
