AN ACT CONCERNING THE REDUCTION OF SINGLE -USE PLASTICS WASTE.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to prohibit any state or 1
municipal government agency, including any vendor with a 2
government contract, and any business, including food vendors, from 3
selling, using, purchasing or providing: (1) Any food ware or beverage 4
product composed in whole, or in part, of polystyrene; (2) any 5
packaging product composed of polystyrene, including packaging 6
peanuts ; and (3) any single -use plastic cutlery, straw, plastic stirrer, 7
splash stick or food ware accessory to a customer , provided this 8
provision shall not prohibit the provision of a single -use plastic straw to 9 Proposed Bill No. 5617

a person with a disability. 10
Statement of Purpose:
To reduce the use of single -use plastics and the inefficient waste stream created by such plastics in order to protect the marine habitat and human health.
