Nuclear Family Priority Act
This bill aims to make changes to the Immigration and Nationality Act regarding family-sponsored immigrants. It intends to reduce the number of such immigrants and make amendments to preferences and categories for spouses and children of permanent resident aliens.
One key change is the modification of the worldwide level of family-sponsored immigrants, reducing the number to 88,000. The bill also introduces a new nonimmigrant status for alien parents of adult US citizens, allowing them to stay in the US for up to 5 years without employment authorization or eligibility for public benefits.
The effective date for these amendments is set for the first day of the second fiscal year after the enactment of the bill, with certain invalidations on petitions and visa applications for eliminated immigrant categories.
