HCR 121 Feasibility study for transfer of the Division of Forestry to the Department of Agriculture

House Concurrent Resolution 121

Requesting a study to see if it makes sense to move the Division of Forestry from the Department of Commerce to the Department of Agriculture.

Background:

The Division of Forestry is currently under the Department of Commerce. There were bills introduced in 2017 to transfer the Division of Forestry to the Department of Agriculture.

Resolution:

The House of Delegates wants to further study this possible transfer.

Resolution Details:

The Joint Committee on Government and Finance will study the feasibility of transferring the Division of Forestry to the Department of Agriculture. They will report their findings and any recommendations to the Legislature in 2018.

The expenses for the study, report preparation, and drafting legislation will be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
