Explanation:
This bill, known as the "Klamath Basin Water Agreement Support Act of 2024," aims to amend a previous law related to water supply in the Klamath Basin watershed. It grants the Secretary of the Interior certain powers concerning projects that affect the area.
Summary:
The Secretary of the Interior can plan, construct, and maintain projects in the Klamath Basin to improve fish habitats, reduce water impact on resources, and restore Tribal fisheries.
The Secretary can enter agreements with governmental and private parties for project implementation.
The goals are to resolve conflicts over water in the area and protect natural resources, especially Tribal fisheries, through collaborative agreements.
The bill also allows for reimbursement to the Tulelake Irrigation District and compliance with existing agreements related to dams in the area.
