An Act concerning Public Health Abortion Grant Program – Establishment
This bill establishes the Public Health Abortion Grant Program in Maryland. The purpose is to provide grants to improve access to abortion care clinical services for individuals in the state. It creates a special fund for this program and requires certain premium funds collected by health insurance carriers to be used for coverage and support of abortion care services under certain circumstances.
Key Points:
Insurers, health service plans, and health maintenance organizations are required to use premium funds for abortion coverage.
The Commissioner can transfer funds from insurance carriers to the Public Health Abortion Grant Program Fund.
