Summary of H.B. 112 - Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Modifications
This bill changes the rules regarding window tinting for motor vehicles in Utah. It specifies the amount of light that must be able to pass through windshields and side windows, as well as restrictions on certain materials that can be used on windows.
One key change is that peace officers are no longer allowed to ask for the revocation or suspension of a person's vehicle registration or driver's license for a window tinting violation.
Violation of these rules is considered an infraction, and motor vehicle businesses must comply with federal standards on window tinting.
This bill will take effect on May 7, 2025.
